Chanel Fall 2011 - Freja Beha Erichsen shot by Karl Lagerfeld
Carine Roitfeld, formerly of Vogue Paris has styled Chanel's Fall 2011 campaign, which Karl Lagerfeld shot in Paris. Featuring Freja Beha Erichsen in a solo for her fifth consecutive campaign , the set of images — previewed at the Cannes Film Festival and shot at a photobooth in Paris — has a decidedly edgier feel than seasons past. “The mix with Freja was genius,” Lagerfeld promises.

This may be her first solo in her fifth consecutive season but this is her third solo campaign for Chanel, she's also the only girl in SS07 and FW07. This marks her 7th ad campaign for the brand (not including the eyewear ads for SS10 and FW11). By the way maybe you're only reading the comments at TFS, most of the negative commenters are the fans of other models who are are just frustrated that their favorite model is not the one gracing the campaign (and Karl's favorite muse).I'm sure they will be praising Karl's talent if it had been their favorite model. Anyway, I love what I see so far, it's fun and youthful and modern.
ReplyDeleteHello Anonymous! Thank you for commenting, and I'm glad you found my blog. You're right, I should have specified that it's her first solo in her fifth consecutive season. I draw facts from a few different sources, and I need to be more careful with the editing.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, TFS is where I glean people's opinions from. Freja is one of my favorite models, so I'm happy to see her in the campaigns, but I can see how other people would rather their personal favorites get a chance.
As for Chanel, of all the major fashion houses, its aesthetic appeals to me the least. I don't like the runway looks, but individual pieces when styled well are rather stunning (like the top Rachel Bilson wore to the Chanel Resort show). I like this new ad campaign so far. It's fun, and I love to see Freja laughing. I hope they release more, and at higher quality.
I'll go over my post again and modify it to make sure it was clearer. Thanks again for your helpful comment!
I don't find it inspiring. I find it dull, odd, boring, and it does not show the clothes well enough. I dislike it which is odd because I adore Freja.
ReplyDeleteIf/when I get better quality photos, I'll update. I kind of like it. Perhaps because I can't see the clothes, since I generally don't like his designs. But I like that he's making the brand seem more playful and younger. His runways make me think of grandmas, but this ad feels like me.
