Valentino, Haute Couture Spring 2011

First, take a peek at the runway show!

I have to admit, I was disappointed a little.  There were some dresses I thought were beautiful, to die for even, but there were also some dresses that I felt were very unflattering.  This collection produced the gorgeous dress above, but it is also responsible for the fugliness that was Princess Beatrice's dress at the royal wedding.  I liked the delicate pleating and romantic lace, but it seems the couturiers had a little too much enthusiasm for ruffles.  Still, many of these pieces, when seen individually, could be quite stunning.  Just peruse the latest editorials, and you'll find a few of these gowns, and they look incredible.

  1. I actually love this show. I think it's one of my favorite couture collections so far. I love how the simpleness and subdued colours create a air of mystery and life. I don't care for the makeup but I love the majority of the gowns. It proves that couture fashion doesn't have to be over the top or crazy detailed to be beautiful. And the ruffles are wonderful. Glittery details really make this a beautiful show.

  2. It is a lovely show.

Do you think it's too similar to the Ready To Wear collection? I would be mad if I paid $250,000 for one of these dresses in January, and then in February they released ones so similar for one tenth of the price!

I also think that this collection and Elie Saab Couture are appealing to the same market, using the same hues and delicate fabrics. Of course, I love both of those collections, but I kind of like it when a Couture collection is so unique that there's no other fashion house doing anything like it at the couture level.

  3. It is really similar. Hmm. I dunno. I like it but I would also like a little more drama. I don't know but it is very Valentino.

I think for couture it has to say something more than this show does.

I do love the show though and I think it's beautiful fashion. It inspires me.

  4. the clothes are gorgeous, but they aren't really very Valentino, the way Valentino was when Valentino was actually designing them. If that didn't confuse you. The new designers have focused on one aspect of his, the femininity, when he had so much more to him. He had drama, seductive reds, glamour! These are beautiful, but in a world where Marchesa and Elie Saab are doing pretty, ladylike, elaborate, soft and fluffy dresses, I want Valentino to make more of a statement.

That said, I would love to own at least half of this collection. LOL.

  5. Yes! I know what you mean. It just seems to be the way the house is going. I think if you took the gowns and coloured them like a abstract painting with splashes of red or blue they would be stunning.
