but why are the men gay? That's what I'm trying to figure out. I can't figure out if there's some kind of message, or if this is just von Unwerth making another titillating editorial.
lol. point taken. I have to say I've never really noticed the men in von Unwerth's work. I'm always too busy looking at the pretty ladies in their bondage gear. And liking it. And then hating myself for liking it while I rock myself in the corner, staring blankly muttering "just pray the gay away. just pray the gay away".
Anyways, way too many interesting conversations on the internet and now I have to go sit by a pool with friends. My life SUCKS!
I love the glamour! There are a lot of good shots here!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it interesting that she's a burlesque dancer it what appears to be a pretty grim gay bar?
ReplyDeleteYeah. Adds a lot of story to the images.
ReplyDeletewell, the grimness of the bar is to evoke the grimy 1920s/30s - she's obviously riffing on Josephine Baker.
ReplyDeleteWhich is a good thing.

ReplyDeleteall von unwerth men are gay. They seem more vulnerable that way, and she likes them vulnerable. It's like how all Helmet Newton photos are about rape.
